Selling your home while you’re still living in it is not everyone’s ideal situation, but it is very common and, most times, necessary. You’ve cleaned it up and staged it perfectly for the professional photography prior to the listing and now you’re ready to show it off – but you’re still living there.
Yes – it can be a hassle and even a bit stressful, but that’s why I would like to share a few tips to make it a bit easier for you.
LESS IS MORE
Start the decluttering process as soon as you can. Remove any personal items from the rooms that show it off as “your” home, like family photos or memorabilia. Prospective buyers need to envision this as theirs and it’s difficult to do when you see other people’s personal belongings. Remove any valuables from the home for obvious security reasons and use the garage to stow away any unnecessary boxes, furniture and other items out of sight.
MAKE IT EASY TO CLEAN
It’s important to make cleaning up after yourself as easy as possible to maintain the home’s sharp appearance. You can utilize decorative baskets and bins to quickly hide TV remotes, books and other table and countertop items. Store your daily bathroom toiletries and a tote so they can be used and put away quickly. Protect your countertops with extra towels when prepping food or doing your makeup in the morning. Your goal is to always have your house ready to show it off at its best when the phone rings!
BE FLEXIBLE TO SHOWINGS
Scheduling showings for your home can be a complicated process both for you and your Realtor. Luckily, I make everything as easy as I can for my clients and provide an appropriate notice ahead of time before scheduling with potential buyers. Still, sometimes we get last minute calls that you never want to turn down, so it’s imperative to be flexible and ready to leave your home when a showing opportunity comes along on short notice. And with my many tips – like the ones above – you will be on top of your game and ready to go with no stress!
There is much more information to share with you as my client and I look forward to connecting with you soon!
